ISLAMABAD — On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal called upon the nation to prioritize public awareness, preventive measures, and early diagnosis to eradicate hepatitis across the country.
Describing hepatitis as a “silent yet preventable disease,” the Minister emphasized that collective national action is crucial to curbing transmission rates and protecting public health.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Healthcare System
Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted that under the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the national framework of URAAN Pakistan, the Federal Government is undertaking systematic reforms to modernise the country’s health sector.
Key government interventions include:
- 🏥 Infrastructure Investments: Enhancing medical infrastructure and upgrading diagnostic capabilities nationwide.
- 🩺 Early Detection & Screening: Expanding access to early screening programs to identify cases before severe complications arise.
- 💉 Quality Care & Treatment: Modernizing treatment facilities and ensuring sustainable funding for viral hepatitis elimination programs.
Call for Citizen Participation
The Minister underscored that government initiatives must be complemented by active public participation. He urged citizens across Pakistan to adopt simple yet vital preventative measures:
- Vaccination: Getting vaccinated against Hepatitis B.
- Safe Medical Practices: Ensuring the use of sterilized medical instruments, safe blood transfusions, and single-use syringes.
- Screening: Seeking timely diagnostic screenings whenever recommended.
“Together, through awareness, prevention, and collective action, we can build a healthier, stronger, and Hepatitis-free Pakistan,” the Minister stated.
