ISLAMABAD — The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) conducted an awareness session on Competition Law at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI).
Led by Chairman CCP Farid Ahmad Tarar, the session provided business leaders with detailed insights into competition law enforcement, voluntary compliance frameworks, and key regulatory mechanisms.

1. Fostering Voluntary Compliance and Market Discipline
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Farid Ahmad Tarar emphasized that effective enforcement alone is insufficient to build a competitive economy. He stressed that advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and education serve as primary tools to prevent market distortions before violations occur.
- Deterring Anti-Competitive Practices: Recent CCP interventions across core sectors—including sugar, cement, and consumer goods—have successfully discouraged cartelization and collusive price-fixing while safeguarding consumer welfare.
- Level Playing Field: Encouraging clear understanding of the Commission’s mandate helps create an investment-friendly, transparent commercial environment across Pakistan.
2. Preparing for Digital Markets & E-Commerce
The CCP leadership announced that the Commission is expanding its focus toward emerging competition challenges within e-commerce and digital marketplaces. Updating regulatory frameworks will ensure Pakistan’s competition regime remains aligned with global best practices.
3. Public-Private Collaboration
Welcoming the CCP delegation, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood affirmed the Chamber’s commitment to strengthening continuous engagement between regulatory bodies and private enterprise.
The event concluded with technical presentations on the Competition Act—covering abuse of dominant position, deceptive marketing, and merger control—followed by an interactive session addressing regulatory compliance and future reform agendas.
