KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) maintained seamless, round-the-clock port operations over the last 24 hours, handling a robust total of 177,148 metric tonnes of cargo.
According to the daily port performance indicators, the heavy cargo volume successfully moved through the port consisted of 135,116 metric tonnes of import cargo and 42,032 metric tonnes of export cargo.
Breakup of Cargo Handled
The total volume of handled cargo is categorized under the following streams:
- Containerized Cargo: Handled via premier terminals, representing the bulk of the high-value trade flow.
- Liquid Bulk Cargo: Including vital oil, petroleum products, and imported chemicals handled smoothly at the specialized Oil Piers (OP).
- Dry Bulk Cargo: Featuring essential raw materials and agricultural commodities like grain, cement, and minerals.
Vessel Traffic and Berthing Activities
The port’s operational efficiency was supported by coordinated vessel movements, ensuring zero congestion at the berths and outer anchorage:
- Vessels Docked: Multiple container carriers, oil tankers, and bulk vessels successfully secured berths across the East and West Wharves, including terminals at the South Asia Port Terminal Limited (SAPTL) and Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTL).
- Smooth Turnaround: Fast loading and unloading cycles ensured that several cargo ships departed on schedule, paving the way for incoming vessels waiting at the outer anchorage.
The steady volume reflects Karachi Port’s enhanced operational capabilities and upgraded logistics infrastructure. This comes on the heels of KPT’s recent record-breaking fiscal achievements, solidifying its position as Pakistan’s primary economic gateway.
