ISLAMABAD — Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal met with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar to review a detailed proposal for the revamping and modernization of Pakistan Television (PTV) under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The discussion focused on upgrading the state broadcaster’s technological infrastructure to align with modern broadcasting standards and improve efficiency across its operations.
Key Highlights of the Revamping Plan
📺 Master Control Rooms (MCRs) & Technical Infrastructure
- Upgrading Core Facilities: Attaullah Tarar stressed the urgent need to overhaul PTV’s Master Control Rooms (MCRs) with modern equipment to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality broadcasts.
- Planning Ministry Support: The Ministry of Information requested full support and resource allocation from the Planning Ministry for the timely execution of the revamping project under the PSDP.
🏔️ Expansion in Gilgit-Baltistan
- Local Infrastructure: The Information Minister emphasized the critical need to establish permanent broadcasting infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan.
- Eliminating Logistical Hurdles: Currently, Outside Broadcast (OB) vans must be dispatched from Islamabad to cover major events in the region. Localized infrastructure will enable seamless live telecasts of international sporting events and local affairs.
PTV as a National Asset
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal described PTV as a crucial national asset that has consistently played a vital role in fostering national unity and building a positive national narrative.
“Efforts will be made to equip PTV with state-of-the-art facilities so that it continues to promote Pakistan’s national identity, remain future-ready, and fulfill its mandate as a credible public service broadcaster.”
Both ministers agreed to streamline administrative and planning procedures to accelerate the modernization program under the PSDP.
